Origin
A red-pigmented S. rubra ssp. gulfensis from Santa Rosa Co, FL, in Mike's collection for "decades" but largely unpropagated until ~2022. The site is known for hybrid swarms; most wild individuals are greenish. Mike's working hypothesis: this clone reflects historical introgression that has since been back-crossed sufficiently that only the red color betrays mixed ancestry [VERIFY].
Standout traits
- Bright red trap color — distinctive within the population.
- Trap shape closely resembles S. rubra ssp. wherryi 'Chatom Giant', though smaller.
- Color may deepen with trap age.
Standout traits
- Striking red color in a population where most clones are greenish.
- Trap shape strikingly similar to S. rubra ssp. wherryi 'Chatom Giant', though does not get as large.
- May darken further as traps age.
- Mike suspects the red is from prior introgression now back-crossed away — only color persists.
Cultivation
In Mike's collection for decades; minimal propagation until recently (~2022).
