Origin
A S. rosea population (the Chipola Giant complex) from Calhoun Co, Florida. Multi-clone material in Mike's collection — each clone capable of sizing up under optimal conditions.
Standout traits
- Multi-clone giant rosea population.
- Wavy-lidded individual is the most vigorous.
- Fast-growing in warmer conditions; slower in Mike's cool-summer NorCal.
- Rare in US cultivation; more widespread in Europe.
Cultivation notes
Mike's plants concentrate ~60% of annual growth in the fall heat- wave window. 2023 traps were post-division recovery — full size expected once plants re-establish.
Standout traits
- Multi-clone population — all clones capable of giant trap size.
- Most vigorous clone in the population: a wavy-lidded individual.
- Relatively fast growing, but prefers warm weather to perform well.
- More widespread in European cultivation than US — still rare in US.
- In Mike's NorCal climate: ~60% of growth happens during fall heat waves.
Cultivation
Wavy-lidded clone is the most vigorous. In Mike's cool-summer climate, most growth concentrates in the fall heat-wave window. Fall 2022 sized up well but Mike didn't photograph; fall 2023 plants were post-division recovery, so traps weren't fully sized. No plan to divide the mother plant going into 2024.
