A S. oreophila var. ornata 'Sand Mountain' division that reached Mike Wang's collection via Europe — distinct from his older Clone A and other Sand Mountain clones. Documented in the forum once, in 2013.
Origin
Originally collected from Sand Mountain in northeastern Alabama (the shared origin for all clones in the 'Sand Mountain' cultivar group). The specific Alabama county and original collector are [MISSING]. This particular individual was held in Europe before reaching Mike's collection in or before 2013; the European source is [MISSING].
History
Introduced on the forum on 8/11/2013 with a single photo set from 8/9/2013. Mike noted at the time that the plant had not yet shown its full color potential. No post-introduction update threads were found in the archive — Mike or other forum members may have additional photos elsewhere.
Standout traits
- Spring-pitcher venation noted by Mike as more pronounced than other S. oreophila clones in his collection at the time.
- Color was modest in 2013 photos; Mike speculated this clone would become more colorful with better growing conditions, particularly if coaxed into producing fall pitchers.
Cultivation notes
This is a 2013-era observation: at the time of introduction, Mike had only recently acquired the clone and considered its growing-out period ongoing. S. oreophila in general intensifies color under twin-wall polycarbonate or greenhouse conditions.
Standout traits
- Spring-pitcher venation more pronounced than other S. oreophila clones Mike has grown
- Color potential believed to be higher than what was shown in 2013 photos (Mike speculates this clone could become much more colorful with better conditions)
Cultivation
As of the 2013 introduction, Mike had only just begun growing this clone and considered its color potential not yet realized. Mike noted S. oreophila in general intensifies color under twin-wall polycarbonate or greenhouse conditions, and that fall pitchers (if this clone could be coaxed to produce them) would likely be stunning.

Naming
"Sand Mountain" is the wild-collection locality (a plateau in NE Alabama). "European clone" distinguishes this individual from Mike's older Clone A and other Sand Mountain divisions, marking it as a separately-imported individual that came to Mike via Europe.
