- First described
- 2012
- Type
- individual clone
Origin
Mike's Clone B from the Sand Mountain, AL locality cultivar group.
History
- 2012-07-23 — Mike's intro; phenotype variability
- 2013-10-07 — media-adjustment color-trick discovery
- 2025-12-03 — atropurpurea-like late-season color update
Standout traits
- Heavy veins, colorful throat
- Year-to-year phenotype variability ('chameleon')
- Media-sensitive (peat:perlite ratio matters)
Cultivation notes
More peat, less perlite for consistent color.
Photos
Five Mike-source photos imported, 2012-2025.
Standout traits
- Heavy veins, beautifully colored throat — true Sand Mountain phenotype expression
- 'Chameleon' year-to-year phenotype variability — boring solid green some years, ornate other years
- Mike's media adjustment (more peat, less perlite) brought out consistent year-over-year color
- 2025-12-03 — atropurpurea-like late-season color
Cultivation
Outdoor Northern California. Mike's color trick (post #8, 2013-10-07): more peat, less perlite. Previously over-perlited mix held back color. steve (post #11) speculated this is acidity-dilution rather than perlite-leaching.
