- 'clone D'
Origin
A long-surviving S. montana clone from Mike's original Transylvania Co, NC batch. Acquired ~2011 (12 years before the 2023 thread, per the reference photo). Of the original-batch clones, most have died over the years; clone D is one of the few survivors.
Standout traits
- Long-term cultivation survivor — Mike: "that trait alone makes [montana survivors] worthy of breeding with."
- Color has changed noticeably between the 2011 reference photo and recent shots.
Cultivation notes
Mike was overdue documenting this clone — earlier photos were not posted. The 2024 series (Aug-Sep) updates the visual record.
Standout traits
- Survival through long-term test — most original-batch clones died over the years.
- Mike: 'survival' is itself a breeding-worthy trait for montanas (which are challenging long-term).
- Color has changed substantially from the original 12-year-old reference photo to recent shots.
Cultivation
Mike compares clone D's appearance over a 12-year span (~2011 photo vs 2023+ photos) — color has noticeably changed. Plant has remained vigorous despite long-term cultivation.
