- breeding line multi clone
Mike-bred F1 cross of S. leucophylla 'Wilkerson's Red Rocket' (C0027, mother) × 'DARK RED' Covington Co, AL (C0371, father). Heavy seedling segregation (DARK RED Covington is recent hybrid origin); after culling, retained standouts include 'DARK best clone' (likely darkest leuco), a white-lipped individual (with own thread 4806), and a double-fall-flush seedling. 16 photos: 15 Mike + 1 drummer230. Goal: more red than any other leuco in cultivation, AND that red has to be DARK.
Standout traits
- F1 cross goal: vigorous individual with more dark red than any other leucophylla in cultivation
- Heavy seedling-batch segregation — many runts, some 'hybridy' goldies, several promising darks
- 'Best clone' DARK individual: Wilkerson's Red Rocket-like form, body color much darker as trap ages — likely darker than any leuco in cultivation
- Standout white-lipped seedling — unique combination of white lips + red body stretching far down petiole; second known white-lipped leuco besides C0374
- One unique seedling produces a SECOND flush of fall pitchers (post 45286, 2020) — anomalous double-flush behavior
- Selection rigor: hundreds of seedlings → cull all runts → remove obvious bad → retain decent + a few jaw droppers
Cultivation
- Selection still ongoing; only the few standout individuals will be distributed.
- White-lipped seedling has a dedicated follow-up thread (https://sarracenia.proboards.com/thread/4806/leucophylla-red-white-lips).
