Origin
A wild-type S. leucophylla selected from thousands within Mike's Covington Co, AL material. Mike states this is the only Covington clone with the bright-white-top + dark-purple-body combination, making it stand out at a distance.
History
Held by Mike for "a very long time" before the 2022 thread; nearly lost on multiple occasions. Around 2019 a tiny side shoot was salvaged and re-propagated; by Oct 2022 there were a few divisions in the collection and Mike posted a division for sale. A second clone with similar dark traits was flagged in Oct 2022 — its eventual maturity will determine if it warrants a separate accession.
Standout traits
- White top + dark purple body, high contrast.
- Color shift: reddish on just-opened traps → dark purple with age.
- Color intensifies as plants reach maturity.
Cultivation notes
Near-rot history; Mike's process was to keep the salvaged side shoot as the gating "only division" until copies were made.
Standout traits
- Bright white top with dark purple body — uniquely high contrast within the Covington Co population.
- Color matures reddish at first (just-opened traps) → dark purple as traps age.
- Color intensifies as plants size up — current photos are at small-to-medium maturity, not full potential.
- Mike notes: catches the eye in person.
Cultivation
Near-loss event ~2019: a tiny side shoot was salvaged after most divisions rotted. By Oct 2022, propagation had reached "a few divisions in the collection" — Mike was offering one division. Color intensifies with size.
