- single clone
- Cultivar
- 'REDRUM'
Origin
A wild-collected (collector unknown [MISSING]) S. leucophylla from Baldwin Co, Alabama — geographically distant from the Wilkerson property, despite the clone's strong phenotypic resemblance to 'Wilkerson's Red Rocket'. The clone spent ~10 years (a "good decade" [VERIFY → ~2012 entry]) overcrowded in a community tray before Mike transplanted it in winter 2020 and noticed it was a standout.
History
First publicly described 2022-09-01 (post #1, id=48899). Mike named it REDRUM — "MURDER" written backwards, from The Shining — after seeing how vibrantly blood-red the pitchers were. The Sept 2022 thread documents the first time the clone produced "amazing fall pitchers" following its earlier transplant out of crowded community-tray conditions. April 2026 update notes that REDRUM normally produces unimpressive spring traps because Mike's spring is too cold; the record-warm March 2026 (92°F for ~a week) was the first time he saw strong spring pitchers on this clone.
Standout traits
- Brilliant blood-red trap interior — visible to non-specialists.
- Substantial white at top of the trap (high-white leuco character).
- Distinguishing bulge at the rear of the trap.
- Fall pitchers open earlier than most leuco clones — possibly environmental (front-of-tray location, warmer soil).
- Aged summer traps continue to darken.
Visually similar to
- 'Wilkerson's Red Rocket' — Mike included a side-by-side just- opened comparison photo. Same red-and-white aesthetic; entirely separate locality. [VERIFY] Whether they're genetically distinct or parallel-selected from similar phenotype pools is open.
Cultivation notes
Mike's only stated cultivation insight is that this clone responded strongly to being de-crowded. After a decade in a community tray, giving it space (winter 2020 transplant) unlocked the fall-pitcher performance Mike documented in 2022. Spring-trap quality is temperature-limited in his climate and only becomes impressive in unusually warm springs (e.g., March 2026).
Standout traits
- Brilliant red trap interior — color pops to even an untrained eye.
- Significant white at the top of the trap.
- Distinguishing bulge at the back of the trap.
- Fall traps open earlier than most other leuco clones in Mike's collection (likely environmental — front of community tray, warmer soil).
- Older summer traps darken further with age.
Cultivation
Spent ~10 years overcrowded in a community tray before Mike noticed it. Transplanted in winter 2020 (~2 winters before Sept 2022); spacious conditions finally let the clone produce its first amazing fall pitchers. Spring traps are normally unimpressive in Mike's climate (too cold while the first traps develop), but the record-warm March 2026 (92°F for nearly a week) produced unusually good spring pitchers.

Naming
"REDRUM" is "MURDER" written backwards, from the Stephen King film *The Shining*. Mike notes the name is catchy but technically inaccurate, since "murdering is, by definition, unlawful" and plants catching insects in their backyards is not.
