Origin
Wild-source Covington Co, AL leucophylla. In Mike's collection for more than a decade, but only formally recognized as a standout in 2025-10-20. The recognition delay is Mike's recurring pattern — plants crammed into community trays don't show their full expression until divided and spaced.
Standout traits
- Pronounced red lips (peristome/rim) against the white-veined trap interior. The trait is widespread across red leucos, but expression here is unusually loud.
The trait's broader distribution
Per Mike, red-lipped leucos are also documented from:
- Walton Co, FL.
- Santa Rosa Co, FL (probable).
- Baldwin Co, AL.
- Likely any locality where red leucos occur.
Cluster disambiguation
This entry (C0771) is the decade-old wild-derived plant. Note: cluster C0734 is "red lips white interior" Covington Co, AL — a recent seedling selection from a Mike grow-out. The two clones share the trait name but are distinct individuals with different provenance.
Standout traits
- Pronounced 'red lips' trait — present in many leucos but expressed especially loudly in this clone.
- Widely-occurring genetic trait: Mike notes red-lipped leucos are documented from Walton Co FL, Santa Rosa Co FL (probable), and Baldwin Co AL — and likely any locality where red leucos occur.
- Recent recognition despite decade-plus presence in collection — recurring 'crowding hides genetics' theme.
Cultivation
Mike's recurring theme — hundreds of clones in the collection remain in community trays without space to express their best traits. Future plans involve more division and spacing to surface more standouts.

Naming
Descriptive: 'red lips' — pronounced red rim/peristome contrasting with the white-veined trap interior. The trait itself is widespread (also in Walton, Santa Rosa, Baldwin Co populations); this clone's expression is unusually loud.
