A red Franklin Co, FL leucophylla — named for Manny H. — that expresses its strongest color in late fall under cool nights. Documented from 2014 to 2018 (13 Mike photos).
Origin
Wild-origin S. leucophylla from Franklin County, FL — the easternmost extent of the species' range. Per Mike (post 1, 2014-09-14), Franklin Co produces some of the best red leucophylla variants, and they share characteristic growth patterns: moderate spring/summer traps with peak color in late fall.
The clone is named for "Manny H." — forum user 'mannyh' — who appears to be the selector/introducer ([VERIFY]; Mike doesn't state this explicitly, but mannyh's brief reply to the thread acknowledging the plant supports the attribution).
History
- Pre-2014: Mike acquires the clone. Year [MISSING].
- 2014-09-12 (post 1): First forum documentation. Mike's framing of Franklin Co, FL leucophyllas as a population.
- 2014-10-04 (post 2): mannyh replies — "Now, that's a good-looking plant. Nicely done."
- 2016-09-06 (post 3): Update.
- 2016-09-15 (post 4): Mike compares to 'dark red' Franklin Co, FL (a different, darker clone) and acknowledges the name 'Dark Red' is slightly oversold for this clone — 'deep red' would have been more accurate.
- 2018-09-18 (post 5): Mike still considers it one of the best Franklin Co, FL red clones.
Standout traits
- Strong red color at end of season.
- Petiole coloration — not just the pitcher.
- Excellent shape per Mike's repeated mentions.
- Cool-night + late-season-light dependence for full color.
Cultivation notes
Standard S. leucophylla care. Cool fall nights bring out the color; don't expect peak color from spring/summer traps alone.
Photos
See gallery below — 13 Mike-photos spanning 2014 through 2018.
Standout traits
- Strong red coloration in fall pitchers — most intense at end of grow season under cool nights and shifting light spectrum
- Lots of red on the petiole, not just the trap (Mike, 2016-09-15)
- Excellent shape — Mike (2016-09-15): 'the shape is fantastic'
- One of the best Franklin Co, FL red clones in cultivation per Mike's 2018 assessment
- Spring/summer traps moderate; fall is when this clone shines
- Less dark than 'dark red' Franklin Co, FL but still very deep red — 'deep red' would have been a better name
Cultivation
- Cool nights + sunny days bring out the color. Solid red expression is most likely under late-fall / early-winter conditions with cool nights and the shifted late-season light spectrum.
- New traps open with moderate red, deepen with age. Don't judge a freshly opened pitcher.
- Standard S. leucophylla culture otherwise.

Naming
Named after Manny H. (forum user 'mannyh'), who selected or introduced the clone. Mike (post 5, 2018-09-21) jokes about the spelling: "There are MANNY red clones out there from Franklin Co, FL, but in my opionion, this S. leucophylla 'Manny's Dark RED' Franklin Co, FL is one of the best!" Mike also notes (post 4, 2016-09-15) that 'deep red' would have been a more accurate descriptor than 'dark red' — under his conditions the clone doesn't go as dark as 'dark red' Franklin Co, FL but the name was already established.
