- Type
- single clone from meadowview named cultivar
- Cultivar
- 'Burgundy'
Origin
Mike's clone came from Meadowview Biological Research Station roughly a decade before the 2011 thread — i.e., approximately early 2000s. Original wild origin not stated by Mike.
Standout traits
- Atypical seasonal pattern: produces a decent set of summer pitchers (most leucos are sparse in summer), then a huge flush in fall.
- Color develops over weeks: initial fall pitchers aren't particularly colorful; sunny days + cold nights drive the burgundy expression over a few weeks.
- Photographically distinct September vs November appearance — same clone looks unrecognizable across the color-development window.
Naming and breeding lineage
Distinct from S. flava var. rubricorpora 'Burgundy' (cluster C0007) — same name, different species. The leucophylla 'Burgundy' is also the likely seed parent of Mike's later Burgundy × dark pink cross (cluster C0781, 2012 sowing).
Standout traits
- Atypical seasonal pattern: produces a decent set of pitchers during summer (most leucos are sparse in summer), then a huge flush of pitchers in fall — Mike's distinguishing feature.
- Initial fall traps are not particularly colorful; the burgundy color develops with sunny days + cold nights over a few weeks.
- Mike documented the color-development progression photographically (from green-ish September traps to deeply colored late-fall traps).
- Used as the named seed parent in Mike's later Burgundy × dark pink cross (cluster C0781, 2012).
Cultivation
Color expression timeline in Mike's NorCal climate:
- Fall, just after pitcher emergence: not much color yet.
- A few weeks of sunny days + cold nights: deep burgundy develops.
- Mid-November: traps continue darkening.
