- Breeder
- Mike Wang
- First described
- 2012
- Type
- individual clone mike bred seed selection
Origin
Mike's deliberate intra-population cross of two different Liberty Co rubricorpora clones (parents not named). One particular F1 seedling — the most vigorous, with the most consistent dark-red body — was selected as 'MW F-1' and distributed by Josh (per paulbarden, post #3).
History
- 2012-06-10 — Mike's first thread post; introduces the seed-batch selection
- 2012-06-13 — paulbarden confirms his 'MW F1' from Josh is the same; Mike confirms same seed batch but different individual; the whole batch was filled with high-quality vigorous plants
- 2012-06-23 — second update; sustained trap quality
- 2012-07-02 — kiwiearl raises the rubricorpora/atropurpurea taxonomic question; Mike confirms the lid-turns-solid-red phenomenon on aged traps
Standout traits
- Most-vigorous seed-batch standout
- Consistent dark-red body
- Aged-trap solid-red lid (rubricorpora/atropurpurea boundary)
- Multiple distributed siblings (Josh-distributed)
Cultivation notes
Outdoor Northern California. Vigorous.
Photos
Six Mike-source photos imported, 2012. See photos[].
Standout traits
- Best vigor in the F1 seed batch
- Consistent dark red color on body of trap
- Lid can become solid red on aged pitchers
- kiwiearl flag (post #9): 'is this one of those Liberty Co rubricorpora that, not happy with being one thing, is trying to turn into a second variety known as atropurpurea?' — Mike confirms post #10
- Multiple distributed siblings via 'Josh' — paulbarden grows one
- Mike (post #8, 2012-06-24): 'I've made a whole bunch of new F-1's that will be even better than this one!' — historical setup for Mike's improved-line breeding
Cultivation
Outdoor Northern California. Vigorous; consistent year-over-year performance.
