- Type
- controlled cross batch rubricorpora improvement
Origin
Mike's controlled cross of two dark Liberty Co, FL rubricorpora parent clones from his collection — internally designated dark #3 and dark #2. Goal of the cross: produce darker offspring than either parent (which didn't materialize) or produce some atropurpureas (which did).
Standout traits
- High-quality rubricorporas, color up more easily than unselected Liberty Co wild types.
- Post-cull batch: only red-tubed offspring retained.
Liberty Co rubricorpora breeding pattern
Mike's broader observation: rubricorpora crosses out of Liberty Co populations rarely produce 100% rubricorpora offspring. The population carries mixed genes for many other variants. Expect to cull aggressively for red-tubed phenotype.
Provenance
Mike: "If any of you got this cross in your collection, it came from my mother plants in the picture!" — direct provenance trace for distributors of this seed batch.
Standout traits
- High-quality rubricorporas after culling — Mike kept only red-tubed plants from the cross.
- Color up easier than many unselected Liberty Co wild types.
- Hybrid-vigor with reliable rubricorpora phenotype expression.
- Cross goal: darker than either parent (didn't get) OR atropurpureas (did get some).
Cultivation
Mike's note on Liberty Co rubricorpora breeding more generally: you pretty much never get 100% rubricorporas in offspring. The population carries mixed genes for many other variants; off-types always appear. The published photos document only the post-cull selection.

Naming
Working name: "(dark#3 × dark#2)" — parent designations from Mike's internal Liberty Co rubricorpora numbering. No formal cultivar name applied to the resulting offspring.
