- Type
- breeding line multi clone
Origin
Mike Wang's within-population breeding cross of two Liberty Co, FL rubricorpora clones in his collection: Clone L (darkest) × 'best clone' (fastest + solid-red body). The aim was to break rubricorpora's notorious slow-growth + sparse-pitchering habit by combining the color depth of Clone L with the vigor of 'best clone'.
The seed batch produced multiple keeper seedlings; several have been distributed across forum members and at least one ('Clone #2' via Calen) is independently documented.
History
- ~2010-2011 [VERIFY]: cross made.
- 2013-04-19 (post #1): first forum documentation; seedlings producing first significant pitchers, many showing abundant side shoots.
- 2013-05-07: more photos showing sibling variation.
- 2015: extensive third-party documentation as the cross matures in distributed collections.
- 2022-05 (neotropical, post #37): peak documentation of Calen-source 'Clone #2'.
Standout traits
- Fast growth + abundant side-shooting — atypical for rubricorpora.
- Dark red mature body.
- Lid waveform (likesamm, 2015).
Cultivation notes
Standard rubricorpora care — but expect markedly better growth rate and pitcher count than pure rubricorpora due to Mike's selection of 'best clone' for hybrid vigor. Color deepens through fall.
Photos
Most original-thread photos are broken Photobucket / tinypic / flickr links. Only one mirrored photo is currently available (likesamm's Burgundy × L comparison shot — not this cross). The gallery is essentially absent from this entry; consult the source thread for current archived images if any.
Standout traits
- Fast-growing for rubricorpora — atypical for the variety
- Abundant side shoots even on small plants
- Dark red body color from Clone L
- Pronounced wave in the lid (likesamm, post #31, 2015)
- Slight sibling variation across the seed batch — multiple distinct individuals worth selecting
Cultivation
- Vigor + branching: best-of-breed for rubricorpora hybrids in cultivation as of 2013-2015.
- Color depth varies by selection: some seedlings produce very dark mature traps (hcarlton's plant, 2015-08).
- Late-season color: continues to deepen through fall (hcarlton, December 2015).

Naming
Cross designation: Clone L (darkest) × Mike's best (fastest + solid red). Multiple seedlings selected from this seed batch; some selections informally numbered (e.g., 'Clone #2', per neotropical, post #37, 2022).
