Origin
A Mike-held S. flava var. flava from Cumberland Co, North Carolina, acquired over a decade ago (~2013 or earlier) from the NASC (North American Sarracenia Conservancy). Mike believes the wild site is now extirpated [VERIFY].
NASC acquisition context
Mike documents the historical NASC distribution policy in detail: quasi-ownership, status reports, and a contractual prohibition on selling/distributing acquired material. He notes (with mixed feelings) that this approach was tied to NASC's non-profit and conservation mission — to keep "satellite growers" available for reintroduction — but was a high barrier to acquisition for outside enthusiasts.
Standout traits
- One of the few cultivated lineages tracing to a presumed-extirpated Cumberland Co site.
Standout traits
- Last surviving cultivation lineage of a now-extirpated NC site [VERIFY].
- Acquired from the NASC under restrictive ownership/distribution terms — Mike's only clone of NASC origin.
Cultivation
No specific cultivation notes documented. Has flowered annually in Mike's collection — flowers and traps photographed 2023-04-27 and 2024-05-15.
