Origin
Acquired by Mike Wang from Phil Sheridan / Meadowview Biological Research Station (Mike, post #3, 2012-05-15: "this clone is originally from Phil Sheridan, and is believed to be a hybrid of some sort"). Wild locality uncertain.
In 2012-05-24 follow-up (post #8), Mike consulted Sheridan and reports the answer: "either originally came from Santa Rosa/Okaloosa County area, or from west of Liberty Co, FL." Mike's own speculation favored Santa Rosa/Okaloosa based on phenotype. calen (post #17, 2019-06-11) proposes a different origin: "I believe originated in the now extirpated Cooks Bayou population in southern Bay County FL" — Mike doesn't explicitly endorse this in subsequent posts.
History
- 2012-05-15 — Mike's first thread post; gigantic-lid claim (initial 16 cm estimate)
- 2012-05-24 — Mike clarifies origin via Phil Sheridan
- 2014-04-22 — striking 'Jack-O-Lantern' photo set (Mike's highlight)
- 2019-06-11 — calen revives the thread; proposes Cooks Bayou origin; orange-flowers note
- 2020-02-24 — rmeyer asks if it's the same as Mike-King F196 'Bronze'; Mike confirms NOT the same — "for sure it's not the same S. flava bronze clone we have here in the US"
- 2020-05-11 — calen documents the orange flowers
Standout traits
- Gigantic lid (~120 mm in mature traps)
- Bronze-orange-red 'Jack-O-Lantern' coloration on fresh traps
- Fluted upper pitcher
- Orange flowers (distinguishing from typical yellow-flowered flavas)
- Phil Sheridan's "hybrid of some sort" suspicion
Cultivation notes
Outdoor Northern California for Mike, slower-paced under Calen's cooler-Oregon conditions.
Photos
Five Mike-source photos imported, 2012-2014. (No Mike-source photos
post-2014 in the thread.) See photos[].
Standout traits
- Gigantic lid — initially Mike estimated 16 cm (~160 mm); revised down to ~120 mm on closer measurement (post #6)
- Bronze-tinted body with reddish-orange flush — 'Jack-O-Lantern' coloration when freshly opened (Mike, 2014-04-22)
- Orange flowers (Calen, 2020-05-11) — distinctive among flavas
- Fluted upper pitcher (kiwiearl, post #7)
- Slow-paced grower (calen, 2019)
Cultivation
Outdoor Northern California for Mike. calen (post #17, 2019-06-11) in Cold Spring, OR notes the clone "seems to prefer warmth to Cold Spring Oregon, but I'm happy with how it's doing" — slow grower in cooler climates.

Naming
'Bronze' = the bronze-tinted body color. Mike acquired this clone from Phil Sheridan; suspected to be a "hybrid of some sort" by Sheridan initially. NOT the same plant as Mike-King's 'F196 var. cuprea Bronze' imported from Dean Cook (Mike confirms in 2020-02-24, post #19).
