Brooks Garcia / Sarracenia Obsessed origin. Strange arching lid that turns dark purple-to-black; trap height exceptional (3'+ historically). Possible hybrid ancestry suspected by both Eric and Mike.
Standout traits
- Trap height: extremely tall — Mike (post #1, 2013) reports the original trap was 'jaw-dropping' in height, perhaps more than 3 ft (~1m)
- Strange arching lid
- Body turns dark purple to almost black under optimal conditions
- First-season acquisition trap was record-tall; later traps shorter — Mike (post #1): 'Perhaps it needs more time to acclimate'
- Possible hybrid ancestry — Mike (post #3, 2013) acknowledges Eric's observation that the plant resembles a rubra; says 'It seems very possible that some other species historically mixed into this plant. That could also explain why it gets so damn gigantic — many plants that show such vigor have hybrid ancestries.'
Cultivation
Outdoor Northern California. Hybrid-vigor hypothesis explains both height and the post-acclimation height regression.
