Standard green-form Darlingtonia population from Rattlesnake Creek in Josephine Co, OR. Mike used this population as the comparison parent in his 2023 color-genetics demonstration: when grown side-by-side with genetically red 'like alpine farms' plants under identical conditions (soil, temperature, light, nutrients, water, airflow), the Rattlesnake plants stayed green while the Alpine plants colored solid red — direct evidence that the red trait is genetic rather than environmental.
Standout traits
- Standard green form — bodies stay green even when grown side-by-side with genetically red 'like alpine farms' plants under identical conditions (Mike, post #45 of thread 673, 2023-11-21)
- Some traps may show reddish heads in fall but bodies remain green
- Comparison anchor for understanding which Darlingtonia variants are genetically red vs. environmentally-color-modulated
Cultivation
- Cool-soil obligate — soil ≤75°F at all times.
- Standard green-form Darlingtonia cultivation; no special requirements beyond the species' general cool-soil/warm-air tolerance.
