Origin
A Cephalotus follicularis selection traceable to the late Phil Mann of Australia. Seeds imported via the ICPS in the early 2000s, germinated and propagated at the UC Davis Botanical Conservatory. Of the resulting batch, 5 clones were exceptional selections — PM1 is one of them.
Mike notes a parallel story for C. follicularis 'UCD' — also traceable back to Phil Mann via the same chain — but PM1 is a different selected individual.
Standout traits
- Larger-than-standard traps; possible giant.
- Long shoe-shape at larger sizes — visually similar to Denbarker locality clones (origin link unverified).
- Produces dark red lids relatively easily.
- Cold-triggered color: new cool-season traps emerge already-red.
Standout traits
- Larger-than-standard traps; possibly a giant (yet to be confirmed).
- Trap shape: standard at small size, develops 'long shoe-like' shape at larger sizes — reminiscent of Denbarker locality clones.
- Produces dark red lids relatively easily under Mike's conditions.
- Cool-trigger color: new traps that develop as cold sets in are red even before opening; summer traps are green.
- Teeth appear small at normal trap size — Mike unsure if larger traps have proportionally larger teeth.
Cultivation
Mike: PM1 produces solid red/dark lids when given the right conditions. Color triggers seem cool-related (new cold-season traps emerge already- red). Performs well in Mike's climate.

Naming
"Phil Mann 1" (PM1) — Mike's accession code. Out of the seed batch, 5 exceptional clones were retained — PM1 is one of them.
