Origin
A Cephalotus follicularis cultivar associated with the German Cephalotus expert Dr. Eberhard Konig. Provenance unclear — Mike notes that some growers think Konig distributed multiple distinct clones (a giant and a regular form). Mike's plant: surprisingly producing larger and darker traps than its 'not a giant / not a dark form' reputation suggests.
Standout traits
- Extremely vigorous after first-season acclimation.
- Filled a 3.25-inch pot in one season; second wave of traps soon after.
- Develops purple/dark coloration despite not being known as a "dark" cultivar.
- One growth point → many side shoots from stem tuber → side shoots on side shoots (Feb 2025 repotting observation).
- "Easier than some finicky Cephalotus clones."
Cultivation notes
Cephalotus color best in full sun + cool nights / luke-cold days.
Standout traits
- Highly vigorous growth — filled a 3.25-inch pot in one season + second wave of traps.
- Abundance of pitchers — forms a specimen rapidly.
- Develops nice purple/dark coloration; possibly darker under the right conditions.
- Mike: 'easier to cultivate than some of the more finicky Cephalotus clones, although still pretty challenging.'
- Single growth point produces tons of side shoots from the stem tuber + side shoots from the white side shoots themselves (Feb 2025 repotting observation).
Cultivation
Cephalotus generally color best with full sun + cool nights / luke-cold days. First-season recovery from shipping was slow; second season exploded. Tons of side-shoot production from a single growth point.
