- Type
- single clone from named seed batch
- Cultivar
- 'Denbarker 2'
Origin
Sister-selection to D1 from the same Phil Mann seed batch. Three individuals were retained from that batch: D1, D2, D3. D2 is the second of the three.
Standout traits
- Possible giant — reported by Mike's sources, withheld as a label until traps confirm at 6+ cm.
- Dark blackish lids under ideal conditions; teeth darken too as plant matures.
- Shoe/slipper trap shape at large size — the Phil Mann program's recurring trap morphology, mirrored in D1 and PM1.
- Within-plant variation: same plant produces traps with near-solid black lids alongside traps with black-stripe pattern.
Comparison to D1
D1 looks marginally more vigorous in Mike's preliminary side-by-sides, but the evaluation timeline is still short. Both clones come from the same seed batch and share the large-trap shoe-shape morphology.
Standout traits
- Possibly a giant — Mike was told this by source contacts. Mike won't label it as such until traps reach 6+ cm in length (excluding lid).
- Dark blackish lids under ideal conditions.
- Same shoe/slipper trap shape at large size as D1 and PM1 — the Phil Mann program's signature.
- Mike's working comparison: D1 may be slightly more vigorous than D2, but evaluation is preliminary. Years of side-by-side data needed.
- Phenotypic plasticity within a single plant: one trap can have a near-solid black lid while the next has black-stripe pattern.
- Teeth darken visibly as plant matures — distinctive on D2.
Cultivation
Mike's main concerns at evaluation stage: (1) confirming the giant designation will require multi-year tuber buildup, and (2) comparing vigor against D1 in matched conditions. Standard Cephalotus care otherwise.
